Ladies Organisation
Forthcoming Season 2008-2009
After another successful Season on
Tuesday evenings, we are now ready
for our sixth season and the League is
due to start on Tuesday 7th October
2008.
The first Captain’s Meeting will be
held on Tuesday 30th September,
2008 at 20.00 for 20.30 hours (8–8.30
p.m.) and the venue will be advised in
due course. Captains are welcome to
bring your Vice Captain or a second
person with her.
At this Captain’s meeting, Starter
packs, including Fixture List, maps,
match score sheets and so on, are
issued. If you have any questions, or
do not understand anything, please
feel free to ask.
New Teams
It is still not too late to put a team
into the league: Introduction packs
for new teams are available, so
please ring me if you require a pack
(96 571 0066). New Teams entering
the league should be within 15
kilometres of Torrevieja Town Centre
and your application form should
be returned no later than 16th
September.
Lady Players: We can help you find
a team. Our League covers all
ability levels and beginner players
are always encouraged and made
welcome. So, if you are still looking
for a team, please contact us.

PINOMAR LADIES OPEN
This is an Open championship for
Ladies Doubles, and will be held on
September 30th. With many players
returning next month a number of
championships will appear, this
provides good training before the start
of the league campaign in October
UK OPEN MIXED PAIRS
The third UK Open mixed pairs will be
held at San Luis on September 23rd.
With more players returning by
then a decent line up should be found.
The holders Val and Barry Roehrig will
be defending the trophy. Entries can
be made direct, or at the new site
which is opposite the Torry Army
Office, take the first right, and then
first right again. They play on Tuesday,
Thursday and Saturday starting at
12am. Everyone is welcome to come
and play. This will be the first
championship at the new playing
area, and is still basic until the
members return and get some
improvements in hand.
SAN MIGUEL PETANCA
This was due to be completed by mid
August, but being August also has its
problems, with the final work now
scheduled for the end of the month,
which is not bad going . The owners
Dot and John Ryder, aided by sons
Martin and Pat, have worked hard to
get this new club up and running. The
bar is Open, which is a good start; at
least now newcomers can call in to
Windows Direct, and see for
themselves what has been achieved
within a short time. A lot of money has
also been spent, to achieve the
desired affect. Now Dot and John will
be hoping to attract players to San
Miguel and make this their own club. If
anyone would like to help with the
running of the Petanca club, they will
be more than welcome, as with a
hectic business to run, this can present
problems some days.
LOS BALCONES
They play at Club Torrevieja on
Monday, Wednesday and Friday,
starting at 10am. They welcome
newcomers and experienced players,
and urgently need some lady players,

HELP FOR HEROES
A special day for this charity will take
place at Anita’s Bar in Blue Lagoon, on
Sunday August 31st.With a special
Petanca championship as part of the
days many activities, this is Open to all
players, so come along and make this
a very special day and raise lots of
money for this charity.
CAJAMURCIA OPEN MIXED PAIRS
This is being held at San Luis on
October 6th, with 40 teams lined up
on the new club playing area, with 20
plus pitches available this extra room
will help improve the playing
conditions. Entries are still invited, on a
first come policy.
Caja Murcia is supporting Petanca
this coming season, with this the first
of the season. Then in October a new
competition takes place with 4 rounds
being held at Horizonte, La Rosaleda,
Pinomar, and La Marina, the top 8
pairs from each round will complete in
the CAJAMURCIA CUP FINAL in
November, the venue for the final has
yet to be decided, whether San Luis
can get the new site up to standard
will make a difference, they do have
time, but lack of toilets are the main
stumbling block. The return of El
Rancho could be a possibility, they
have the facilities required, but the
Petanca area needs some attention,
again they have time.

New Rugby Union Club in the Vega Baja Area
We are a new, recently formed,
rugby union club, with the majority
of our players training at the
moment being children aged
between eight and sixteen years
old. We are looking to expand our
teams to include senior, vets and
ladies.
At the moment we are training
on the beach at Guardamar.
Although the training is very tough,
we really need to be able to train on
a grass pitch.
Does anybody have any
information on a football club who
might be willing to share grounds
with us, ideally with facilities such
as changing rooms, club house etc?
Having our own club house
means we can raise funds for
equipment and sending the team
on tours etc. One of the problems
with other clubs is, due to the
working times in Spain, the training
hours are quite late. We, on the
other hand, will be training
between 18.00-20.00 for the juniors
and 20.00 -22.00 for the seniors.
The Vale of Lune ladies team
recently came over here on tour
and, as a result, a number of other
teams have requested to tour over
here, which is obviously a problem
with no pitch.

TORREVIEJA WINTER POOL LEAGUE
2008/2009
Hola, my friends, pool players and all
bar owners; the future 2008/2009
winter pool league is now very
quickly approaching, so I am taking
this opportunity to get this notice to
as many of you as I can. We were very
late starting last year so we were
unable to hold any singles, doubles
or team knockout competitions
which I promised we would rectify
this year, But, I do have to know well
in advance exactly how many teams
we will have in our league in order to
formulate the weekly fixtures.
I would also like to see a few more
teams if possible taking part in our
league this season English and
Spanish, so if you know of any venue
that would like to join our league,
please let me know.
Therefore the purpose of this
notice for you at this point is to ask
you to please let me know ASAP if, (1)
Your Bar/Club will be entering the
league. (2) How many teams you will
be entering. (3) Name of Bar and
contact telephone number. Your
decision should be based on last
year’s format of 6 singles, 3 doubles; 9
Matches overall.

exciting new winter league of Pool.

Torrevieja Winter Pool TORREVIEJA WINTER POOL LEAGUE NOTICE OF
A.G.M. TO BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 3rd AT SACKO’S
BAR, EL LIMONAR
An A.G.M. is being called for the above winter League at SACKO’S
BAR to start very PROMPTLY at 20.30 hours (8.30pm). To be held
On Wednesday 3RD September 2008.
Food will be very generously supplied by SACKO’S BAR for the
occasion.
The purpose of this A.G.M. is to allow all Bar’s, Club’s, and
Venue’s that have given notice of their intended inclusion to the
2008/2009 Winter League to register their Team’s and players
into the league and to pay all Fee’s set down by the Committee.
All Venue’s that have applied for entry and want inclusion into
the league MUST send at least one player or representative of
that venue to this A.G.M. for the purpose of this registration and
payment of all fee’s.
PLEASE TAKE A SERIOUS NOTE WITH NO EXCEPTIONS THAT IF
YOU ARE NOT PRESENT FOR REGISTRATION, YOU WILL NOT BE
INCLUDED IN THE LEAGUE.
This meeting will also allow time to discuss any problems that
you may have with regard to the running of the league. Also to
election of the Committee, the Rules of the game, and any input
that you may have in the interest of our league. It is essential that
your venue’s representative brings with him/her a complete list
of all players that will be playing for your team’s along with the
correct amount of money for each player, if any individual player
has not been registered and the 4 Euro fee paid, these players
will not be able to play until this payment is made to the league
treasurer. Fee is 4 Euros per player.
The registration fees as they stand for this coming season are:
1. 40 Euros Bond refundable at the end of season less any fines
etc.
2. 40 Euros entry fee for each team entered.
3. 4 Euros for each player registered for your team’s with no limit
to number.
