SAN LUIS OPEN PAIRS
The first championship for the new season
was held at San Luis with Swedish Estate
Agents Fastightsbyran, the Sponsors of this
53 team tournament. In top form was Ash
Patel, from San Luis, just back from England,
he had too hastily find a partner, and Carina,
a German lady from Blue Lagoon accepted.
It was a good choice as they were to win all
5 games in fine style, and take the 80e and
Gold medal, also with 5 wins were Gun-Britt
Elmersund and Kurt Ahman from Torre Del
Moro, they won 60 euros., third place went
to Ulla-Britt and Ale Fant, from San Luis they
had 4 wins, and won 40 euros, with 4th
place going to Wyn Surridge and Roger
Seymour, also of San Luis, they had 4 wins
and a narrow 13-12 defeat, to win 20 euros.
The presentations were made by Daniel
Nilsson, the commercial Director for
Fastighetsbyran, and his colleagues who
were present from the start of play, they
were pleased with the days play, which
ended just as the rain started.
MALOU LADIES OPEN PAIRS
With 48 teams competing for the Malou
Memorial trophy, this produced a full day’s
play at San Luis. After 5 games each the
winners were Kristina Froberg and Desiree
Walters from La Marina they won all five
games to take the 80 euros and Gold Medal.
Runners up were Berit and Hanna Krogseter
from the Norwegian club Kule Venner, they
took the Silver medal and 60 euros, in third
place were Anita Thunman, and Gunnel
Lantz from the Mil Palmeras club, they won
the Bronze medal and 40 euros, just edging
out home pair of Annie Docherty and Sue
Johnstone, who won 20 euros.
COSTA BLANCA PETANCA AGM
This was held at the new Asturias
Restaurant, with a full house attending this
pre serie new season. Gun-Britt Elmersund
chaired this meeting, which starts its
eleventh year. The officers made reports
with the treasurer reporting a healthy
balance, despite the financial climate. New
secretary Kaj Bjarve had been busy with the
league fixture lists, the new season starts on
March 12th. Los Montesinos were elected
into the serie with two teams competing in
serie 4a and 4b. They are based at El
Rancho, and have made good progress in
the two years they have been formed.
8TH EUROPEAN DAY PETANCA
The date has been set for May 8th, for the
8th European Day pairs championship. The
championship is being held at club
Torrevieja, as last year, The Ayuntamiento
in Torrevieja are again pleased to Sponsor
this well established contest. With 12
countries already expressing interest,
entries are now coming in, and can be
made through either Fernando at the
Torrevieja club, he will deal with the
Spanish entries and any others who play at
this club, or joint organiser Roger Seymour
on 966 785 642.
SAN LUIS TRIPLES
Good weather at San Luis, encouraged
some good play, with Britt Nilsson, Rolf
Norberg and late stand by Kurt Olsson,
meeting Ann Katrin, Ulla and Bengt
Bladlund in an all San Luis final, with both
teams playing well it was a long hard
fought match which went all the way,
with Britt, Rolf and Kurt taking a 13-12
victory, they received the Gold medals,
with Ann Katrin, Ulla and Bengt the Silver.
Third place went to Berit Elofsson, Leif
Hellqvist, and Roy Spittle, they had played
well throughout the day and met Maj-
Britt Jacobsson, and Barbro and Hakan
Blomqvist of San Luis, this was a win by
13-10 for the La Siesta trio, who took the
bronze medals.
CASTILLO DE CONESA
This new Petanca club is located in the
grounds of the Castillo De Conesa
Restaurant, near San Miguel, and despite
some inclement weather work is progressing
with 6 full size pistes, which will
hopefully be completed by mid March. The
new club have already attracted new
members, which will ensure a good start
for the two teams entered into the Las
Salinas league, this commences on April
9th. The playing area is tiered on two levels
with seating and tables completing this
picturesque setting.
CAJAMURCIA MIXED TRIPLES
This mixed triple is being held at San Luis,
on March 17th with Cajamurcia again
sponsoring this top class competition.
