WEDNESDAY, January 20th, was a very special evening for Vic Reynolds and the 200 or so people who attended his farewell dance at the International Campsite in La Marina. As mentioned in a previous article, Vic, who at 88 years of age is reputed to be Britain’s oldest band leader, has decided to retire due to recent ill-health and this special evening was an opportunity for his many Costa Blanca followers to honour the great man and say farewell. The evening followed the format of Vic’s Costa Blanca dances and his band, now under the direction of John Atkins, performed many of the crowd’s favourites, along with some new arrangements indicating that the band is changing and modernising. The highlight of the evening was a presentation of a framed photograph of the Vic Reynolds Orchestra presented to Vic by John. This was a very emotional moment for many people in both the band and the audience, and Vic confirmed to the crowd that the dances would continue into the foreseeable future.
A slight correction to our previous article...the next Big Band Dance, featuring the wonderful Miss Patti Ross, will be held at the same location on March 24th, not March 31st as previously advertised. Tickets are available at the usual outlets or by calling John on 96 679 7219, but don’t leave it too late as the last dance sold out within 7 days.
