Last Saturday more than 400
protestors marched on the town of
Bacarot to call for an end to the cruel
treatment of cats in the town and
throughout Alicante province.
The march took place after a large
number of dead cats were collected
from the town by the Sociedad
Protectora De Animales y Plantas De
Alicante. Autopsies revealed that the
cats had been poisoned and brutally
beaten to death.
The protest was organised by the
Protectora De Animales De Alicante
and the Plataforma Global Para La
Protección De Los Animales.
Hundreds of street cats die every
year in Alicante province due to
poisoning. In a bid to stop this, the
Protectora De Animales De Alicante
has launched a campaign calling for
the restriction of the sale of poison in
Spain. Already 1500 signatures in
support of the campaign have been
collected and the goal is to collect a
total of 100,000.
The petition can be signed at the
animal sanctuary outside Bacarot, just
off the A79 and very close to El Pantio
golf course. Or a copy of the petition
can be sent to you via email so that you
can sign or collect signatures. If you
would like a copy of the petition email
