Keiran Spain is just 13 years old and has been blind from birth. Born with a rare brain disorder called Septooptic Dyslasia. Keiran’s only hope is a £35,000 stem cell treatment operation, which is only carried out in China.
Keiran’s family have already raised £16,000 by holding fundraising events near his home in Gillingham. Keiran’s story has featured on local radio and TV, raising much needed awareness for his condition and the required treatment.

Great Aunt Eileen Blizzard lives in Quesada and decided as a surprise she would hold a fundraising event here in Spain and send the money back over to her niece Haley, Keiran’s Mom. The event took place on Saturday at the Mini-Golf, Quesada.
Eileen said: “Keiran is a fantastic boy, he has a great attitude and never complains. When Haley asked him if he would like to have the operation he said ‘well it might be quite nice to watch the football’. He’s like any boy his age, football mad, but him being able to see family and friends for the first time would be a miracle.”
More than 60 people registered to play, which got the evening off to a great start with 260 euros in the pot before the raffle and charity sing-along even started. The golf proved a huge hit, and everyone enjoyed themselves and entered into the spirit of the event – although there was a little bit of rule bending going on. Mike, Val, Bill, Jane and Mel got round the course in the least putts and scooped a trophy and a bottle of champagne. Once everyone had built up and appetite it was back inside for a meal, a few drinks and some entertainment courtesy of Tony Viagra and friends: Bill, Ivan the Man, Mick and Mike, Jane and Mel.
The 30-prize raffle boosted the coffers with a grand total of 580 euros being raised for Keiran on the night. All the prizes were donated by local businesses and Eileen and friend Judy Birch, who helped organise the event would like to give them a big thank you. Thanks also go to Rick and Lisa owners of the mini-golf who donate a case of wine for the raffle and a sum of money to round up the total. And a special mention to 97 year-old Lydia Birch who sent twenty pounds from England to her family when she heard they were attending the event.
Eileen now plans to have the event put a You Tube and then ask her niece to watch it, knowing that she is completely unaware of the event and will be amazed by the effort the people of Quesada have made for her son.
