The Hondón Valley Branch of the
Royal British Legion celebrated
“Armed Forces Day” on 27th June
with cream teas and a “sing along”.
Members arrived at the Mercado in
Hondón de los Frailes and found
flags and red, white and blue table
cloths. This was the setting for a
lovely cream tea served by
Tina@Frailes with delicious scones
and real Devon cream! Tony and
Margaret Brown led the singing of
war-time favourite songs – with Tony
reading various poems and
monologues of the era. On show was
memorabilia from Bletchley Park,
newspaper cuttings from the 1940s
and one member’s father’s
photographic records of service in
both World Wars.
The raffle was ingeniously designed
by Wendy and Tony Dengate with
prizes wrapped as ration boxes! The
rustic atmosphere lent itself to
memories of street parties of year’s
ago. The next major event for this
Branch will be a BBQ- with
entertainment - on 4th August.
