More than 700 pensioners and retirees form across the Orihuela Costa were brought together at Punta Prima to celebrate the areas traditional Senior Citizen’s Day. The day was organised by the Department of Social Services and saw residents enjoy a day packed with music, dancing, social interaction and were joined for lunch by the Mayoress Monica Lorente and a number of councillors. After the meal the Mayoress, accompanied by several members of the government, presented each local senior citizen association with a cheque for 1,000 euros. The presentations were made to the presidents of twenty groups and charities who work with and provided service for the elderly and the money will be used for the general continued running of their organisations.
This included: AECC, women’s groups, Alzheimer’s associations, friendly society’s, church groups and those that support people with diabetes and mental illness.
