There were celebrations this weekend
in Benijofar as the town held its twoday
‘Jornadas del Comercio’ on
Saturday and Sunday. There were
banners at every entrance point to
the town announcing the celebration
and residents and visitors followed
them to the heart of the action.
The small clothes and crafts
markets held hidden delights with
crepes and sweets among
the favourite treats to be
tried. The jewellery stalls, as
always, drew a crowd as the
dress rings were tried first
on one finger, then another.
Just round the corner
was a row of small marques
housing the wares of a
number of local businesses
everything from lingerie to
paintings and electrical to
furniture was on display
with owners present and
happy to talk about their
products and services.
As with any fiesta it was
the refreshment and
entertainment area that attracted most
people, and there was barely a spare
table all day. Drinks and tapas flowed
freely and parents were able to sit, relax
and enjoy the atmosphere whilst the
children played in clear view on the
bouncy castles.
Throughout the day a traditional
passacaglia band would
spontaneously burst into action,
delighting the crowd with amusing
songs and up beat tunes. As the night
wore on the crowd evolved from
families and older residents to include
the younger ones of the town who
were entertained by the town’s very
own rock band Blank Page. In the best
Spanish style the music played into the
evening and everyone was soon in a
party mood.
It is hoped that the Trade Fiesta,
organised by the Town Hall and the
local business development agency
will promote the businesses in the
town and encourage people to visit on
a regular basis.
