An exhibition of antique tools and
implements has gone on display in
San Miguel de Salinas. Running until
15 July at the town’s Tourist
Information Office, the exhibition is
open to all with programmes
available in English as well as Spanish.
Given that the area has one of the
healthiest climates in the world, many
of the exhibits were used for framing
or to gather the fruits and foods
synonymous with the now famous
Mediterranean diet. The exhibition
has been complied to highlight the
importance of the local culture and
traditional customs as a major factor
in the promotion and development
of San Miguel. It focuses on
preserving and protecting local
history, the natural environment and
cultural heritage. The progression of
tools on display also tells a story of
economic development and shows
how San Miguel has evolved from
solely employing the countryside to
encompassing near-by coastal
beaches as new sources of economic
progress and employment. Tourist
Information staff will also be on hand
to conduct guided tours of the
display in a number of languages to
encourage visitors from the
international community - including
English, French and German. Simply
ask at the desk for a tour guide who
speaks your language.
