La Marina Services International Trophy La Finca Thursday the 21st August
For our late game of the month we to La Finca to play a texas scramble format for a trophy sponsored by La Marina Services International.
The course at La Finca was in varying condition, the fairways and greens where excellent but the tee box need some attention, l also have a moan about the access and exit to and from the greens, and tee box .
one green you have cross a sand trap, to get to and from and most of the boxes you had to climb over a low slung rope, but having said all that the course is good challenge especially for the lower handicapped, It was also noticed that two senior members of the society, were not correctly attired. In there society shirts, perhaps the axeman: had chopped his up, but one other young Terry maintained the standards by wearing his, I also wore mine but it was looking the worst for wear with a small hole in the front, on reflection perhaps I should not have worn it, There also appears to be problem with bridges both here and at Plantio I understand that these bridges are coming in to play more often with advantages ,so perhaps some of us should take lessons on to how use them other than to walk across.
The presentation were made by Maureen and Adam who are La Marina Services International at our B B Q at the sports complex pool area ,this was an excellent evening with great food good music and plenty of liquid to sustain us through the night. Once again an excellent event organised by that dynamic duo Bill and his wife Joyce well done and a big thank you to all staff of the poolside bar as well. The photo shows Keith Porter accepting the trophy on behalf of his playing partners who could not be here this evening.
The results are as follows:
TROPHY WINNERS Chris Patching, Keith Porter, Chris Guest 47 points Nearest the pin Hole 3 Terry (I wore the correct shirt) Longman. Hole 6 Barry Martin. Hole 13 Bill (without correct shirt) McGrandle. Hole16 Roy Cox
Next game Alicante September 3rd Alicante Tee off 12 oclock.
For any information on the society contact Bil McGrandle on 679 907 756.

WEDNESDAY 20TH AUGUST COSTA BLANCA NEWS TROPHY
We seem to have visited Bonalba quite a bit lately, but we are always happy to play there for the Costa Blanca News Trophy. The generosity of Sr Manolo Garay of the CBN is always overwhelming. And once again has provided some fantastic prizes for our members. Thank you Manolo.
This week we had two other opportunities to win prizes, These were the longest drives (Hole 2 for men ) and (Hole 5 for ladies). Remember it must be on the fairway you big hitters. Carl Peden & Mrs Shelia Dean were the two winners.
The course has held up well from the long hot summer, not like La Serena.!! As expected the CBN trophy always brings out the best in the way of scoring and Bonalba is not an easy course to return a good score on. In the Bronze category it was very close with Gordon Boyne and Ray Ewins returning 31 points, Ray taking first place on 31 points on count back. The Silver category was just as competitive with 3 points separating the first three, wnish was taken by Alan Tickner with 33 points. Now on to the big boys (Gold category) I think that the winner of this category should be an inspiration to everyone (More so if you happen to be in his category) To play to handicap 4 you need to be very consistent ( and this guy is exactly that. He was disappointing last week only scoring only 28 points (remember the course) but he came back this week strongly from yhat that to return an excellent 36 points. This was also another round in the Captains eclectic, but you will have to wait for Captains night to find out the result.

August, the grey storm clouds tumbled across the sky, the wind was gale force and the rain was horizontal, that was Devon, we were at El Valle on a gorgeous day to play in the annual Chloe Cup Medal competition.
On clear and bright sunny day,
We’re off to El Valle and golf to play,
Twenty three Blokes and a solitary Bird,
She’s a good golfer that’s what I’ve heard.
The story went round no one could believe,
She’s in the same fourball along with Steve,
To play with me would be a privilege and treat,
But alas on the tee we did not meet.
The end of the round I was enjoying a gin,
When the H/C sec said the scores are in,v He looked at me with a smile on his face,
Paula has beaten you into 5th place.
Another game and still no win,
I guess I’ll have another gin,
I can’t be beaten by a Bird,
Another gin, that’s totally absurd!!

However, I think everyone enjoyed playing at El Valle it is in fantastic condition and as a medal round some score cards had 10’s &11’s on and there were a few choice comments!!.
Chris Smith – will you stop looking at your watch it’s distracting.
Dave Olson – it’s not a watch - it’s a compass !!!
Fred Waring – I think I’m going to drown myself in the lake.
Trevor Hough – Think you can keep your head down that long!!!
John Hillier – I’d move heaven and earth to break 100.
Graeme Clark – Try heaven, you’ve already moved most of the earth !!
Paula Haggart – That can’t be my ball, it’s too old.
George Thomas – It’s been a long time since we teed off !!
Chris Smith – this is the worst course I’ve ever played on.
Dave Olson – this isn’t the course, we left that an hour ago !!
Eddy Wall – do you think it’s a sin to play on Sunday ??
Steve Branston – the way you play, it’s a sin any day!!
Moving on.
The results for the Chloe Cup.
1st Peter Deaves. 2nd Rob Neill (C/B). 3rd Trevor Hough.

The hottest day of the year so far saw 24 members and guests turn out for our game at Villa Martin.
Two players decided to walk namely the Captain and the Handicap Secretary , we dont know if this was very brave or what - the jury is still out on that one.
The course was in excellent condition despite the weather, the only blip was the 10th where two foursomes played to the green only to find the pin was on the Fairway, due to repairs and then moved back to the green for the other foursomes.
The decision back in the Clubhouse was to make the hole void.
The results were as follows:
Overall winner: Tony Allerston 33 points. Gold Winner: Dave Lishman 32 points. Gold Runner up: Brendan Dougan 30 points. Silver winner: David Wood 30 points. Silver runner up: Yvonne Lane 25 points.
Best guest: John Sylvester 34 points.
Nearest Pin: Hole six Brendan Dougan. Hole nine Rob Chapman. Hole thirteen John Silvester
Our thanks to Tony and Brenda at The Junction who in conjunction with The Coastrider sponsored this tournament and provided the prizes and a lovely buffet.
The next tournament will be on Tuesday 9th September at Alicante Golf. Please check the board in the Junction for further details, and also we now have our Christmas Function on the board.
