Dear Editor,
I would like to give a big public “THANK YOU” to Nigel Hopkins and his son Matthew who ran the West End Musicals workshop last week.
Seventy-five people booked in on Monday morning not knowing quite what to expect, some who had never sung in a choir before. I think we all had a very pleasant surprise! Nigel worked us very hard teaching and polishing numbers from shows as far apart as Camelot, Lion King, Cabaret, and Perchance to Dream (an old Ivor Novello show for those who have never heard of it) and many others. One or two people dropped out but the rest of us worked hard to put on the concert on Saturday night. The audience of over two hundred people were quick with their applause for both choral pieces and solos, also with their donations to AECC. Altogether a fantastic but tiring week especially for Nigel, coaxing the best from us and Matthew, playing the keyboard for hours on end. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I for one look forward to next year's promised workshop.

Dear Editor,
We contact you in reference to the article published last week in the CoastRider news paper regarding the title deeds of Tecnología Urbanística clients.
In your article, you mention : “ATLAS IS ALSO TRYING TO CHARGE PEOPLE SEVERAL HUNDRED EUROS EXTRA FOR LATE PAYMENT CHARGES. ALTOGETHER BETWEEN TECNOLOGíA AND ATLAS PEOPLE ARE BEING ASKED TO PAY BETWEEN 5000 € - 9000 € EXTRA TO RECEIVE THEIR DEEDS”
We would like to inform you that this information is totally incorrect.
Atlas International has never requested any additional payments to clients in order to sign their title deeds. All demands for extra payments have been requested by Tecnología Urbanística builder.
We will therefore kindly ask you to rectify this information in your next correspondence to the CoastRider, as this misinformation is promoting unnecessary damage to the image of Atlas International.
Yours sincerely, Sandra Iglesias, ATLAS INTERNATIONAL

Dear Editor,
As an Englishman I would like to reply to the letter by Tam Graham (Edition 236) regarding Scottish Independence.
That wasn't squeals he heard from the English, that was shouts of joy. I should think the majority of the English nation are hoping the SNP will win the referendum in 2010. Why? Firstly, the English can use the billions of pounds paid by the English taxpayers to subsidise the Scottish university students, the free care to the elderly and the free prescriptions enjoyed by the Scottish to subsidise the English university students, free care for the pensioners and free medical prescriptions instead.
Secondly we can get rid of all the useless Scottish MPs at Westminster.
MPs like Gordon Brown, the worst Prime Minister ever, Alastair Darling, the worst Chancellor ever, Des Browne, the worst Defence Minister ever and John Reid, a jack of all trades and a master of none. The rest of the Scottish MPs at Westminster don't do anything except give themselves huge pay rises and apply for expenses they didn't deserve.
When I have asked Scottish acquaintances where the money will come from to pay for all freebies currently paid for by the English, they tell me about the billions they will get from oil revenues. It is a well known fact that the oil is running out and then where will the money come from. They can't go to the EU because as soon as they become independent, Scotland will no longer be a member of the EU. It is the United Kingdom who is the member, not the individual nations making up the UK.
I cannot see the need to negotiate anything especially regarding Social Security. As soon as Scotland has their independence, any social security problems north of the border will be for the Scots to deal with, any problems south of the border will be for the English to deal with.
I shall be happy to be free from the spongers in the North.
Yours Sincerely, An English member of the Graham Family

Dear Editor,
Once again I feel compelled to advise you of my experience with the "couldn`t care less" attitude of our leading supermarket here in Torrevieja, (my previous one being when they kept my SatNav for two months and then tell me it`s up to me to send it to the makers). My son (against my wishes) bought a pushbike costing 250 euros from Carrefour only three weeks ago, yesterday on his way out to work the chain snapped, his Mum took him to work and I took him to Carrefour this morning. I let him go in on his own, after all he is sixteen with perfect Spanish and with such an open and shut case as a nearly new item breaking I thought there would be no problems.......... Yes you`ve guessed it, he came up against the “Carrefour shrug” complete with a pronounced contorting of the face while uttering “chain not guaranteed”. Then he was duly sent to the checkout desk with a new chain in a box at the bargain price of 9 euros.... When he came out and told me I sent him straight back in for his money back. Once again another example of the “I work here, I don`t care, just give me my wages at the end of the month” attitude towards the people who, after all pay them their wages. We then drove to Montesinos to my favourite bike/ moped shop (just off the main road to the left, on a corner) where the owner stopped what he was doing as we walked in, listened to the tale, tut tutted as he removed the broken link and fitted a new split link in the space of no more than two minutes. Total charge?...... ONE EURO...............Where would you rather shop? So would I !!!!!!!!!
I`ll end this as I ended my previous SatNav complaint, the manager will never hear of these occurrences therefore, with the tills bursting full of cash every day he will be getting patted on the back, possibly even bonuses on how well the store is doing but my moral to the story is this.........If you want to eat it, buy it from Carrefour, but if there is any possibility of needing after sales service go to someone like the chap (Spanish of course) in Montesinos.
Yours, M. P. Spurr

Dear Editor, I was recently in La Zenia when a sewage spill ran through the tunnel under the N322. When the flow down towards the beach stopped a huge pool of sewage was left at the bottom of the hill behind Zenia Sol on one side and the Banks and Restaurants by the La Zenia Roundabout on the other. It seems to me that nothing is being done about the inadequacies of the La Zenia Sewage pumping station because the matter has become political. The Council denies there is a problem as they don't want to spend money fixing it as the opposition political party will claim credit for forcing them to take action. Frankly this is behaviour that I would not expect from a small child. In many countries this lack of action by the council would be classed as criminal and they would be removed from office and prosecuted.

Dear Editor,
Many will have read my recent article concerning ‘Risto’ the little dog found wrapped in a polythene bag and placed in a rubbish ‘wheelie bin’.
As a result of coverage in the press, this dear little chap, rescued initially by a Spanish refuse man called Angel, has now found his piece of heaven having been adopted by a British couple who as a result of seeing the article, contacted Vicky Pena, Spanish animal rights activist who works closely with Pilar de la Horadada's A.P.A.H. charity , and made the necessary arrangements to provide him with a home and life. This represents a success story for the press here, for those of us of all nationalities and ethnicities who care about animals and people alike and last but not least, for Risto.
Thank you for carrying the story.
Michael John Chappell
