Dear Editor My name is Dawn Pope. I live in Playa Flamenca and the reason I am emailing you is I had my handbag stolen inside "Burger King" last Tuesday. I have lived in Spain for nearly 10 years so know all the pitfalls and being on your guard, although know that anybody can become a victim through no fault of their own. Anyway, last Tuesday at 1.30pm I went into "Burger King" (a place I never frequent) as time was short, rather than come home and prepare myself some lunch. I got my burger and sat down alone at a table to eat it, putting my handbag on my chair beside me. Being lunchtime there was quite a lot of people dining. I was distracted for a second when a young lad - English looking - walked past me as though going to his table and dropped his chips all over the floor quite near me. I glanced round as there was quite a clatter and next thing I know my bag was gone. My partner & I had just left the notary sorting our wills out so consequently I had both our passports, my driving licence, credit cards, money and phone plus a few other items inside my bag - so now I have the stress and cost of trying to sort all these documents out and without a passport can do nothing until I get a replacement. I spoke to nearly everybody inside the restaurant but they all said they did not see anything, which I find quite hard to believe as my handbag was black and fairly large but most incredible of all when I spoke to the manager he apologised and said there was nothing they could do. He telephoned the local police but was simply told I had to go to the guardia civil in Pilar de la Horadada to make a denuncia, nothing more. I then asked the manager if he and I could have a look at the video from the security camera to which he informed me that they do not record. This I find absolutely appalling as I assume that if there was anincident in the restaurant involving a robbery from themselves then surely their insurance is then not valid as there is no evidence - or am I wrong. Please warn other people to this sort of crime as I would hate to think of anyone else going through what I have been through this last week. Keep up the good work. Regards, Dawn Pope Dear Editor, When I was in Spain in April/May this year I had really bad hayfever. I do not get it in the UK only when I visit Spain. It was really bad and I did suffer a lot and because I am going to move to Spain,I was worried as to whether I could cope living in Spain. I then saw an article in your paper about the Natural Health and Diagnostic Centre. I was very impressed about their claim to cure 99% of persons treated. I thought there must be something in this. I have tried alternative therapies before such as herbal remedies etc to no avail. As a bit of a sceptic I was amazed at the result after just the second application of the medicine they made up for me. I hope you publish my letter because it is very sincere and I’m sure that there must be someone else out there who is as desperate as I was to overcome this deblitating problem. I am now back in the UK but hopefully coming out at the end of August to take up residency. Yours sincerely, Geoffrey A Smith Dear Editor Regarding: Streets signs destroyed after a few days (Edition 233) Who breaks down the street signs? Likely the same morons who broke off dozens of roadside trees, within days of being planted, possibly the same idiots who smashed the church windows, the same cretins who buy a beer and smash the bottle on the open area pavement, the same plonker who paints graffiti over the Urb., the same little s*** who drops their chewing gum & fag ends down in the street, the same pubescent near adult who buys a motor bike or quad & removes the exhaust mufflers, so that all can hear its progress around the Urb, the same resident dog owner who want to cover every square metre with dog faeces, the same sort of half wit, who shouts their way home from the bar at 3 in the morning, and that sort of person, who’s brain dead, and replies to this sort of letter in the free papers by saying why would you want to come to change it. Duh! Do you want these sort of people to take over & trash the place? People who love living here! Ring the Police, Ring the council, Ring anybody, before the low life take over. Lets get it sorted! James Hamson Dear Editor My husband has just received a letter from the DWP regarding the reinstating of his DLA. They say that because he appealed against the stopping of his payments and the Tribunal agreed with their decision, that it is now out of their hands. He never even received a reply from the Appeal Tribunal which was in October 2006. But now the new ruling has come out where they should never have stopped paying the care component of the DLA and they say people should now be getting part of this payment. We have all the paper work involved and would like help on where to go next. He has Parkinsons Disease and all this stress does not help. I would just like to know who we can get in touch with, or if there is a society where we can speak or write to with other people in the same situation as us. I feel sure we are not alone. I have been on the expats site but there is no one to contact on there. We live near Ciudad Quesada. I hope you can help us Thank you, Rita Brassington-Stocks Dear Editor In response to the letter in last weeks edition concerning poisoning dogs, I for one would not condone that sort of action, but once again we are faced with the age old saying "it,s not the dogs fault" it is the fault of the owners. I sympathise with the letter writer, to be sent to those lengths that they resort to such measures. Legislation is long overdue to curb owners whose animals continually bark night and day, and foul the pavements and streets. A friend of mine was out jogging recently, and as she approached a woman with a dog on a lead the dog sprang at her ripping her shorts, thankfully the skin was not punctured, the woman with the dog said “He’s never done that before” what a pathetic statement. One word sums up the whole problem “responsibility”. You own an animal it’s you who should be responsible. Thank you Fido |
